Set on the seafront edge of Poseidonos Avenue in Alimos, the project transforms an existing building into a contemporary headquarters for a Greek shipping company. Between the density of the city and the openness of the Saronic Gulf, the design creates a workplace defined by light, movement, adaptability, and maritime memory.
The proposal is based on the idea of a second skin: a new architectural layer that wraps and redefines the existing structure. This façade acts as both a responsive screen and an environmental device, giving the building a fresh identity while improving comfort, shading, privacy, and connection to the sea.
The project’s hero material is fabric. As the original material of the sail, fabric is celebrated here as the element that made maritime movement possible. Reinterpreted through movable curtains and translucent façade layers, it becomes a responsive envelope that filters sunlight, frames views, and changes throughout the day.
The second key reference is the wave. Used as the project’s hero geometry, the wave introduces rhythm, continuity, and motion into the façade, interiors, courtyard, and roof garden. It connects the building formally and atmospherically to its coastal setting.
Inside, the offices are designed for flexibility. Open-plan workspaces support collaboration, while enclosed rooms allow focused work and team meetings. Movable elements, curtains, and adaptable furniture help the building respond to different modes of contemporary work.
Particular emphasis is given to social spaces. The courtyard and roof garden are conceived not as secondary breakout areas, but as active places for exchange, creativity, informal meetings, and collective life. With planting, curved seating, shaded areas, and sea views, they extend the workplace beyond the desk.
Sustainability is approached through reuse, passive shading, flexible systems, natural materials, energy efficiency, water conservation, and planted outdoor spaces. The result is a contemporary maritime office building: adaptive, elegant, and rooted in the identity of shipping, not through literal imagery, but through material, movement, atmosphere, and its dialogue with the Athenian coast.
